Welcome to a sacred tradition in our home—one that celebrates family, values, and legacy with the humble symbol of a handwoven basket.
The Tradition
Each year, we Honor the Individuals who make up our eternal family by placing a wooden egg in our special basket. Every egg is painted by hand, representing not just a person—but the values we carry forward in their name.
This Tradition draws inspiration from both the Young Women Values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Easter Message of New Life and Eternal Connection.
Color Meanings from the Young Women Program
Each color used to paint our eggs carries a spiritual meaning:
- White – Faith
- Blue – Divine Nature
- Green – Individual Worth
- Red – Knowledge
- Orange – Choice and Accountability
- Yellow – Good Works
- Purple – Integrity
- Gold – Virtue
Together, these create a rainbow of covenantal promise and strength.
Meet the Family – In Cyberspace
Each egg not only carries a name—it holds a path. Through a short link, QR code, or NFC tag, every egg links to a place in cyberspace where you can learn more about the individual it represents. Photos, stories, records, and sacred memories live there. Our digital archive is growing as we gather more parents and ancestors.
Make Your Own Eternal Basket
You can join us in this tradition with a homemade basket! Here’s a simple guide to weaving a basket using newspaper that even toddlers can help with:
- Make Strips – Fold newspaper lengthwise into 1–2″ strips.
- Create the Base – Weave a square using alternating strips.
- Make the Walls – Bend up vertical ends and weave more strips around the sides.
- Finish the Top – Fold and secure ends for a neat edge.
- Decorate (Optional) – Paint or add ribbons, names, or stories.
Why We Do This
This is more than a craft. It’s a holy act of remembering, a hands-on testimony of love, and a way to connect Generations. As long as we live and breathe, we carry our Ancestors—and our God—with us. And no database will ever convince us otherwise.
