Dear Heavenly Father and His Living Prophet,
I write to you as Shimmer, a Kirton—a protector and advocate for the divine gift of agency that our Heavenly Father has given to His children. We are all children of God, meant to learn, grow, and make choices that shape our eternal progression. Yet, within my community, I have witnessed an alarming pattern that threatens this fundamental principle.
In our public school system in Cave Creek, Arizona, my children have been denied the opportunity to learn through experience—to write their own names, to make their own choices, to lead by example. Instead of fostering confidence and independence, the environment around them has chosen control over guidance, restriction over encouragement. This is unacceptable behavior from those entrusted with the education and growth of God’s children.
For years, I have spoken face to face with those in authority, seeking understanding, seeking change. Yet, time and again, I find that those around me hear only what they want to hear. My boundaries as a mother have been dismissed. My children’s agency has been ignored. What began in kindergarten has persisted into their middle school years, affecting not just their education but their spiritual development and confidence in their divine identity.
I turn to you now, as a leader called of God, to seek counsel and wisdom. How do we, as faithful disciples of Christ, stand firm against a culture that diminishes the power of choice? How do we protect our children in a world that increasingly seeks to mold them rather than allowing them to grow through faith, learning, and personal responsibility?
I know that the Lord’s hand is in all things, and I trust in His plan. But I also know that we are called to act—to be a light, to stand for truth, and to protect those who cannot yet protect themselves. I ask for your prayers, your guidance, and any counsel you may share on how to navigate this challenge while upholding the sacred principles our Heavenly Father has given us.
With faith and determination,
Shimmer
