START WITH THE LAND — A CONTINENTAL TRUTH

By K. Kirton Niner | DOES THIS HELP®

There is something wrong with how we begin education.

We do not start with the land.
We do not start with the people.
We start with names—countries, borders, and systems that came later.

And then we wonder why people feel disconnected from truth.

AMERICA IS NOT A COUNTRY

The United States of America is a country.
America is a continent.

North America. South America.
A connected body of land that has always existed—
long before names were assigned to divide it.

This land was not “discovered.”
It was lived on.
It was walked.
It was traded across.

People knew the land.
They knew each other.
They moved with purpose.

That is where truth begins.

THE LAND CAME FIRST

Before:

  • United States
  • Mexico
  • Canada
  • Utah

There was land.

And on that land:

  • there were people
  • there were paths
  • there was trade

The world has always been connected.
The idea that people were isolated until “discovered” is not education—it is simplification.

True education starts with:

  • land
  • people
  • movement
  • relationship

Then comes:

  • governance
  • agreement
  • borders

We have reversed the order.

DESERET — A MEMORY OF SELF-GOVERNANCE

There was a time when a people sought to govern themselves according to their beliefs.

State of Deseret was a vision of that.

It was not fully recognized by the systems that replaced it,
but that does not erase what it represented:

  • community
  • stewardship
  • faith in action
  • self-governance under God

For some, Deseret is not just history.
It is identity.

ZION IS NOT LIMITED BY BORDERS

I am a daughter of Zion.

That is not a location.
That is a way of living.

Zion is:

  • people of one heart
  • people of purpose
  • people who choose to live under God’s law

Deseret, in that sense, is not confined to Utah.
Its borders are not lines drawn on a map.

Its borders are lived wherever:

  • truth is honored
  • stewardship is practiced
  • people choose to stand in covenant with God

WHAT EDUCATION LEFT OUT

Modern systems teach:

  • names
  • maps
  • political structure

But they often skip:

  • origin
  • belonging
  • responsibility to land and community

That is why many feel disconnected.

Because they were taught where they are—
but not what came before,
and not who they are in relation to it.

TRUTH BEFORE LABELS

This is not about rejecting structure.
It is about putting things back in order.

Land first.
People first.
Truth first.

Then:

  • countries
  • systems
  • agreements

IN GOD I TRUST

Man draws lines.
God knows the land.

Man creates systems.
God knows the people.

My identity is not limited to what was later named.
It is rooted in something deeper—something recognized beyond paper and policy.

In God I trust.

DOES THIS HELP®

If education began with truth—
with land, with people, with connection—

we would not be divided by misunderstanding.
We would understand where we stand,
and why it matters.

Start with the land.
Start with the people.
Start with truth.
