A Call To The Community Of Christ
There comes a moment when words are no longer enough.
When programs, policies, and referrals fall short of what is actually needed. When “we’ll pass this along” becomes the echo of a deeper silence. And in that silence stands a son—a Child of God—who simply needs someone to walk beside him.
This is that moment.
I am not writing to complain. I am not writing to accuse. I am writing to invite.
To invite the Community of Christ—not just in name, but in action.
Because somewhere along the way, many have learned how to organize church… but fewer have remembered how to be Christlike within it.
A Son Who Chose Christ
My son, Tyler, made a choice.
He looked me in the eyes and said, “Because it’s the only true Church, Mom.”
That was not pressure.
That was not expectation.
That was belief.
He chose baptism.
He chose covenant.
He chose Christ.
And now—he needs a community willing to choose him back.
What He Needs Is Simple
He does not need to be fixed.
He does not need to be analyzed.
He does not need to be told who to become before he belongs.
He needs:
- A friend who will sit with him at Sacrament
- Someone who will invite him to play ball, to dance, to show up
- A brother who will talk with him, not about him
- A community that sees him, not labels him
This is not complicated.
This is discipleship.
What Would Christ Do?
Would Christ wait for Tyler to meet a standard first?
Or would He sit beside him?
Would Christ correct him before knowing him?
Or would He walk with him, learn him, love him—and then teach him?
We already know the answer.
Christ did not build belonging through compliance.
He built it through connection.
The Difference Between Saying And Being
There is a difference between saying we follow Jesus Christ… and actually following Him.
To follow Christ is to:
- See the one who feels unseen
- Sit with the one who feels alone
- Invite the one who feels out of place
Not when it’s convenient.
Not when it’s easy.
But when it matters most.
And it matters now.
This Is A Call, Not A Complaint
This is not about one ward, one leader, or one structure.
This is about all of us.
Because community is not built from the top down—it is lived from the heart out.
So I am asking, plainly and openly:
Who will show up?
Who will sit beside him this Sunday?
Who will invite him to be part of something instead of waiting for him to “fit into” something?
Who will choose to be Christlike—not in word, but in action?
Because This Is How We Help Him
We do not help him by directing him.
We do not help him by correcting him.
We help him by being with him.
And in doing so, we become more like Christ ourselves.
Does This Help?
Does this help you see what is needed?
Does this help you understand what it means to truly minister?
Does this help you help me… help him?
Because I cannot do this alone.
And I was never meant to.
