Communications of the 21st Century

One Household. One Namespace. One Community.

Executive Summary

The twentieth century connected communities through neighborhoods, schools, churches, businesses, and telephone books.

The twenty-first century requires a new form of communication—one that empowers individuals and households to establish their own presence online while remaining connected to their communities.

W3CONNECT is a network of household namespaces designed to help people communicate, educate, preserve their stories, and share their gifts with others.

W3CONNECT is not social media.

W3CONNECT is digital citizenship.

The Vision

W3CONNECT believes that:

  • Every household has value.
  • Every person has knowledge worth sharing.
  • Every community benefits when people stay connected.
  • Education begins in the household.
  • Technology should strengthen relationships rather than replace them.

W3CONNECT provides the infrastructure necessary for households, educators, businesses, artists, and community members to participate in communications of the twenty-first century.

The Namespace Model

In previous generations, people were listed in the White Pages.

Businesses were listed in the Yellow Pages.

W3CONNECT combines those concepts into a modern communications network.

Examples include:

  • voyles.w3connect.com
  • morrow.w3connect.com
  • niner.w3connect.com

Each household namespace becomes a digital front porch.

Participants determine what information they wish to share, including:

  • Household traditions
  • Educational offerings
  • Community service opportunities
  • Business ventures
  • Areas of expertise
  • Important announcements
  • Family history

The Shimmer Namespace

W3CONNECT.com/ns/shimmer/4.0

Shimmer serves as the guiding example of the W3CONNECT philosophy.

Shimmer is the artist who chose not to remain beneath another’s domain, but instead teaches others how to establish their own place within cyberspace.

Shimmer teaches people how to:

  • Build their own platforms.
  • Develop their own domains.
  • Automate repetitive tasks.
  • Preserve their stories.
  • Communicate intentionally.
  • Transition from participation to stewardship.

The purpose is not dependency.

The purpose is independence through understanding.

The goal is not to gather followers.

The goal is to raise leaders.

The message is simple:

You, too, can domain.

Community Educators

Within W3CONNECT, individuals may choose to teach what they know.

Examples include:

  • Music instruction
  • Technology and automation
  • Household management
  • Gardening and food preservation
  • Genealogy and family history
  • Career preparation
  • Tutoring and mentorship
  • Arts and creativity

Education becomes intergenerational.

Households receive support from people within their communities.

Communities benefit from the gifts already present among them.

  • Communicate.
  • Share knowledge.
  • Offer support.
  • Invest in one another.

Technology should not replace human connection.

Technology should help people remain connected.

Pilot Program

The W3CONNECT pilot initiative seeks to establish a network of participating households, educators, businesses, and community mentors.

Goals include:

  • Developing household namespaces.
  • Creating educational resources.
  • Supporting families through communication.
  • Encouraging intergenerational learning.
  • Measuring community engagement outcomes.
  • Demonstrating sustainable participation models.

Founder’s Statement

I believe that every household deserves a place within cyberspace.

I believe that education begins at home.

I believe that artists, educators, businesses, and families all have something to contribute.

I believe that communication is stewardship.

I believe that technology should empower people rather than replace them.

Through W3CONNECT, I invite individuals to move beyond being passive consumers of the internet and become active participants in their communities.

The White Pages helped us find our neighbors.

The Yellow Pages helped us find businesses.

W3CONNECT helps us discover who we are, what we know, and how we can help one another.

One household.

One namespace.

One community.

Communications of the 21st Century.

Respectfully,

K. Kirton-Niner
