Our Bodies Know How to Do Amazing Things 🌱

When we are born, our bodies already know how to do many things.

Our hearts know how to beat. ❤️
Our lungs know how to breathe. 🌬️
Our bodies know how to sleep and wake up. 🌞
Our bodies know when they need food, water, movement, and rest.

As we grow older, our bodies change. Sometimes grown-ups feel tired or take longer to get moving. Grown-ups also create routines and make choices about things that help them through their day.

☕ What Is Coffee?

Coffee comes from a plant.

Coffee has something called caffeine. Caffeine can help a grown-up feel more awake, alert, and focused. Coffee also contains natural plant substances called antioxidants.

Some grown-ups choose coffee as part of their morning routine.

But our bodies already have their own wake-up system. We don’t have to teach ourselves, “I can’t wake up until I have coffee.”

We can wake up, stretch, drink water, eat breakfast, see the morning sunshine, move our bodies, and begin our day.

A grown-up can still choose to enjoy coffee. The important lesson is understanding the difference between:

“I enjoy my coffee.”

and

“I can’t start my day without my coffee.”

The things we practice can become our habits, and the way we talk about our habits matters.

🍇 What Is Wine?

Wine begins with grapes.

Grapes contain natural plant substances called polyphenols and antioxidants. When grapes are made into wine, some of those substances remain.

Wine also contains alcohol, which affects the body and brain, so wine is something grown-ups may choose to drink.

Some grown-ups enjoy a glass of wine with a meal, for its flavor, as part of a celebration, or simply because they enjoy it.

We don’t have to call someone’s choice good or bad just because it is different from ours.

🌻 The Bigger Lesson

Our bodies are amazing.

As we grow, we learn how our own bodies work. We also learn that the things we repeatedly say and do can become routines and habits.

So we can ask ourselves:

What can my body already do?

What am I choosing to add?

Is this something I enjoy, or something I’ve taught myself that I need?

And we can learn about other people’s choices without judging them.

Different grown-ups make different choices. Understanding the choice is more important than judging the person.
