Rancho del Oro Land Dispute: A Betrayal of Values and Community Trust

Rancho del Oro, Maricopa County — In an unincorporated stretch of Maricopa County where independence, respect, and personal responsibility have long defined the community, some new homeowners have introduced behaviors that betray those very ideals.

What was once a peaceful, self-governed environment is now marred by trespassing, destruction of desert vegetation, unleashed aggressive animals, and violations of property lines. Most troubling is that these actions come from individuals who claim to stand for Christian values and, in some cases, military honor. Their conduct, however, tells another story—one of broken boundaries, falsehoods, and disrespect for their neighbor.

One resident, deeply rooted in faith and governed by the law of Moses and the Priesthood, has endured repeated violations of her property, destruction of the land, and threats to her safety and the well-being of her working cats, which are part of the Humane Society’s AZ Working Cat program.

It is especially disheartening to witness such behavior in a place where personal freedom and moral accountability should go hand in hand. The audacity of these neighbors—acting as if the property lines of others are their own to shape or violate—reflects a dangerous level of delusion. Purchasing land in an unincorporated area does not come with the right to ignore laws, disrespect neighbors, or distort the rural character of the community.

This is not simply a matter of land. It is a matter of conscience.
