There’s a casual way people speak these days that I just can’t ignore anymore. Whether it’s tossing around “you guys” like everyone’s part of some clique, or sounding like a valley girl with every other sentence starting with “Oh my God”—I’m done with it.
I’m not perfect—I’ll admit, sometimes I catch myself slipping into these bad habits. But here’s the difference: I hear myself. And when I do, I correct it. Because I know that words have weight, whether people want to admit it or not.
What really gets to me, though, is when people throw around my Lord’s name like it’s filler in a sentence. I’m someone who turns and looks when I hear someone say “Jesus” or “God”—because to me, that’s not just a word. That’s sacred. That’s holy. And hearing His name used carelessly, or worse, in vain, makes me want to say, “Don’t bring Jesus into your nonsense.”
It’s about respect—for yourself, for others, and for God.
We live in a time where people speak without thinking, where reverence has been replaced by trends, and mindfulness has been replaced by convenience. But I believe in being aware of what I say. I believe in honoring who I am—a young Lady, a Mother, a Daughter of God—and honoring His name when it’s spoken.
So yes, I’m done with careless words. I’m done hearing people talk like they don’t know who they are, or worse, like they’ve forgotten who He is.
If you hear me speak, know this—I’m choosing my words. And if I slip, I’ll correct myself. Because how we say things matters. Not just for us, but for the example we set, and the respect we owe—to each other, and to God.
