A Simple Scrapbook Reflection

Faith does not have to be complicated.

For me it comes down to something simple.

Light is energy.

Everything in the universe exists because of energy. Without light, nothing grows, nothing moves, nothing lives. In the same way, the Light of Christ is the energy that gives direction and life to the soul.

It is the quiet power that helps us know right from wrong.
It is the strength that helps us choose the good path.
It is the light that saved me and continues to guide me.

When I was eight years old, my Father, John William Kirton Sr., baptized me. That was the day I made a covenant with God—to follow Jesus Christ and to walk in His light.

I did not understand everything then, but I understood that I was choosing a path.

That path is the difference between what I call the land of obey and the land of disobey.

Every day we make choices that move us closer to one or the other.

To obey truth is to walk in light.
To disobey truth is to walk away from it.

Christ showed us another way to stand in the world. He did not teach us to fight with weapons or anger. He taught us to stand in truth.

To stand instead of fight.

To use His book instead of a weapon.

To use His light instead of darkness.

To use His power through faith, truth, and love.

When we live this way, we do not stand alone. Christ stands with us. His presence is felt when we choose to walk in His light.

The sacrament reminds me of the covenant I made to follow Him. When I see the bread and water, I remember that promise.

But the covenant itself is not limited to a place or a schedule. A covenant with God lives inside the heart. It is something we carry with us every day.

Faith is a choice.

Belief is a choice.

Trusting God is a choice.

I choose to trust God, my Eternal Father.
I choose to believe that Jesus Christ lives.
I choose to follow the path of obey instead of disobey.

Being lawful matters because God Himself is perfectly lawful. If we wish to stand in His presence, we must learn to live in harmony with truth, goodness, and light.

And when we walk in that light, we begin to understand something beautiful.

Those we love do not truly disappear.

Those who love us do not go away.
They walk beside us every day.

Their influence, their lessons, and their love remain with us. In the Light of Christ, heaven and earth are closer than we sometimes realize.

The Light of Christ shines on everyone.

Some people feel it strongly.
Some people sense it quietly.

But it is always there, inviting us toward the path of truth.

Light is energy.

And the Light of Christ is the energy that reminds us who we are, where we came from, and the path that leads us home.
