A Nephite song from the final days
The fires are burning beyond the hill,
The voices of my people are growing still.
I have watched the mighty turn away,
And wondered if I could stand another day.
But Moroni carries the record on,
Through shattered cities and dying dawn.
If one man walks when the multitude falls,
Then maybe faith still answers when heaven calls.
So I will try.
Though the earth beneath me trembles,
I will try.
Though my people won’t remember,
I will rise when I have fallen,
I will kneel when I cannot stand.
I will trust the Son of God my Eternal Father
Though I do not understand.
I remember what our fathers knew,
The Christ who came when the darkness withdrew.
He touched their sick; He blessed their small,
And taught that love was greater than all.
Now hatred travels from heart to heart,
Brother from brother torn apart.
But another man’s anger need not be mine;
I can still choose Christ one final time.
So I will try.
When the sword is raised against me,
I will try.
When fear comes down around me,
I will remember His wounded hands
And the promise our fathers knew:
Even when the whole world turns away,
I can still choose what is true.
Moroni, hide the record well.
Let another generation tell
That we were more than our final war,
More than the blood upon Cumorah.
Tell them Christ walked upon this land.
Tell them He took our children in His hands.
Tell them some remembered when others forgot.
Tell them faith survived—
because somebody tried.
And if I fall before morning’s light,
Let my last breath testify:
Jesus is the Christ.
Our fathers knew Him.
I will not deny Him.
The battle may take my body—
but it does not get to choose my soul.
