My Testament of Jesus Christ
By Krysta Kirton Niner
I am a child of God the Eternal Father.
I testify of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, my Eternal Brother, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Teacher, and my example.
I believe in God the Eternal Father. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe in the Holy Ghost. I pray to God the Eternal Father in the name of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Ghost.
I am a Latter-day Saint.
I follow Jesus Christ by seeking to live as He shows me to live. I serve. I listen. I learn. I teach. I forgive. I correct when correction is necessary. I stand for truth. I recognize the individual child of God standing before me.
I honor agency.
Every child of God has agency. I do not need another person to believe exactly as I believe in order to love them, serve them, listen to them, or learn from them.
I understand repentance as movement. When I recognize that something does not work, I change direction. I learn. I correct. I grow.
Jesus Christ makes change possible.
His Atonement gives me hope. His Resurrection gives me hope. His life gives me an example of what service looks like.
I do not claim to know everything.
I know that I know very little compared with everything there is to know, and that understanding keeps me learning.
I am a Daughter.
I am a Sister.
I am a Wife.
I am a Mother.
I am a Creator.
I am a Developer.
I am a Teacher.
I am a Student.
I am a Servant.
I am an Observer.
I am still learning.
My family matters eternally to me. I see myself as part of something larger than one person, one household, one generation, or one moment.
I see God’s children around me.
When I serve another person, I serve God.
When I teach someone how to do something for themselves, I serve.
When I create something that helps another person understand, I serve.
When I listen, I serve.
When I stand beside someone who struggles, I serve.
When I speak truth with love, I serve.
When I lead by example, I serve.
This is what Does This Help® means to me.
It is a question I ask myself:
Does this help?
Does what I say help?
Does what I do help?
Am I listening?
Am I learning?
Am I teaching?
Am I leading by example?
Am I helping another child of God recognize their own ability, responsibility, agency, and worth?
I do not follow Jesus Christ because I expect other people to worship me, serve me, agree with me, or become dependent upon me.
I follow Jesus Christ because His example points toward service.
I believe the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I read its record as a testimony pointing toward Him and inviting every person to learn, ask, pray, think, and choose.
My testimony belongs to me.
It exists wherever I stand.
It does not depend upon a building.
It does not depend upon a title.
It does not depend upon another person’s approval.
I am responsible for what I choose to do with what I understand.
I choose to keep learning.
I choose to keep asking questions.
I choose to keep creating.
I choose to keep serving.
I choose to keep loving my eternal family.
I choose to keep looking toward Jesus Christ.
I am a child of God the Eternal Father.
Jesus Christ is my Eternal Brother and Savior.
The Holy Ghost helps me recognize truth.
Jesus Christ shows me how to serve.
His Atonement gives me reason to believe in repentance, change, forgiveness, and continued growth.
His Resurrection gives me hope in eternal life and eternal family.
His example gives me something meaningful to do right now:
Love. Learn. Serve. Teach. Create. Forgive. Endure.
And always ask:
Does This Help®?
This is my testament of Jesus Christ.
This is who I am.
This is what I believe.
This is how I choose to live.
