☀️ GOOD MORNING, CREEKERS!

One more day until I’m a 49R! 🎂⛏️✨

That’s right, Creekers! Tomorrow, November 3rd, I turn 49 years young! And living here in the beautiful Sonoran Desert, surrounded by dirt, rocks, history, and a little gold of my own, I think becoming a 49R is rather fitting!

But first, let’s talk about something that’s been weighing heavily on my heart and washing through our neighborhood.

🌧️ When the Rain Comes, the Water Remembers

We’ve had quite a bit of rain these past few days, haven’t we?

And Mother Nature has been reminding us of something important: Water follows the land.

Here in Rancho del Oro, our original 2.5-acre parcels have been divided, developed, landscaped, and built upon. New houses, new walls, new driveways, new elevations, and plenty of dirt moved from one place to another.

But here’s the thing, Creekers.

Just because you build a wall doesn’t mean the water knows it’s supposed to stop there.

Water has been traveling through these desert washes long before our houses, fences, and property lines existed.

When we move dirt, fill washes, or block established drainage paths, that water still has to go somewhere.

Sometimes it pools in our roads. Sometimes it cuts trenches. Sometimes it finds a new path straight toward somebody else’s property.

And that’s not neighborly.

🚙 Our Roads Are Everybody’s Responsibility

I’ve been out grading and maintaining what I can on my own property, trying to help keep our roads passable.

I’ve already needed a new alignment on my vehicle, and these trenches are getting ridiculous!

We shouldn’t have to damage our vehicles just to get home.

Nor should one neighbor’s landscaping project become another neighbor’s drainage disaster.

I’m not against development. I’m not against beautiful walls, attractive landscaping, or neighbors improving their homes.

I’m for responsible development that respects the land and the people living around it.

And where construction has changed drainage, I believe it’s appropriate for Maricopa County authorities to inspect the situation and determine what needs correcting.

❤️ What Would Jesus Christ Do?

As a Sister of Jesus Christ, I believe His example gives us a simple place to begin.

In 3 Nephi 14:12, Jesus Christ tells us:

“Therefore, all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.”

Imagine what our community would look like if every person considered their neighbor before moving a pile of dirt, building a wall, or changing the path of a wash.

Would you want someone else’s stormwater washing into your yard?

Would you want to drive through deep trenches every morning?

Would you want your property boundaries respected?

Then extend that same consideration to the people around you.

Kindness isn’t just waving hello as we pass each other.

Kindness is taking responsibility for the consequences of our actions.

It’s helping a neighbor. It’s respecting a boundary. It’s making sure our improvements don’t become someone else’s problems.

And sometimes it’s simply being willing to listen.

🌵 Rancho del Oro 85331 — Our Community, Our Responsibility

We don’t need an HOA or a city government to practice common courtesy.

We live in an unincorporated community, but that doesn’t mean we live without responsibilities or applicable county laws.

We can respect private property, protect our natural desert washes, and work toward safer access for everyone.

Let’s remember that the land we enjoy today has a history far older than our newest subdivisions.

The desert doesn’t need us to conquer it. It needs us to understand it.

🎉 And Now, About This 49R!

Tomorrow is my birthday!

November 3, 1977, was the day I arrived in this world, and here I am, nearly 49 years later, still learning, still creating, still asking questions, and still doing my best to make the world a little better than I found it.

I’ve been called many things throughout my life, but tomorrow you can officially call me a 49R!

And what better birthday wish than a community that learns to care for its land, its roads, its animals, and most importantly, one another?

A little more kindness. A little more consideration. A little more responsibility.

And maybe 49 birthday cards to celebrate 49 years of living, learning, and loving! 💌

After all, the greatest treasures aren’t always made of gold.

Sometimes they’re the people who remember you, the neighbors who help you, and the little acts of kindness that last a lifetime.

✨ Today’s Creeker Challenge

Before you make an improvement to your property, ask yourself:

Does this help?®

Does it help my household?

Does it help my neighbor?

Does it help preserve the beautiful desert we share?

Because that’s how we build a community worth calling home.

Our roads connect our properties. Our kindness connects our community.

Good morning, Creekers! Have a wonderful Monday, and remember:

Tomorrow, this Shimmer becomes a 49R! 🌟

With love, faith, and a little desert dust,
