DOES THIS HELP® — A MOTHER’S WITNESS ON LINEAGE, AGENCY, AND THE ORDER OF THE HOME
FROM ONE MOTHER TO ANOTHER, FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT
I do as my Mother, and her Mothers.
I do as my Father’s Mother, and her Mothers.
Not because I am told to.
Not because I follow blindly.
But because I have watched, learned, questioned, and chosen.
There is a difference between following and continuing.
There is a difference between being told who you are and living in a way that proves it.
I am a Mother.
That means I do not simply repeat—I discern, decide, and act.
ON LANGUAGE AND LABELS
In every generation, new words are introduced.
New labels. New ways of saying old truths.
But truth does not need to be reinvented to remain true.
I was once a “Beehive.”
And that word taught me something simple and lasting:
- Work together
- Build something that matters
- Know your place in the whole
- Contribute without being chased
That was not just a label.
That was a working model.
Today, the world prefers identity first—
“You are this. You are that.”
But I was taught differently:
Do the work. Learn the pattern. Live the principle.
Then you will know who you are.
We must be careful not to put the cart before the horse.
ON EVE, MOTHERHOOD, AND AGENCY
I have heard Eve called “our Mother.”
I understand the phrase.
She is called the “mother of all living” in mortality.
But I also know this:
We are not bound by another’s transgression.
We are accountable for our own choices.
That truth is found in Articles of Faith.
Eve had agency.
She made a choice.
And because she chose, the story of humanity began.
As a Mother, I do not see that as failure.
I see it as the beginning of responsibility.
We are not here to control every outcome for our children.
We are here to teach them how to choose.
ON THE ORDER OF A HOUSEHOLD
A home is not built on control.
It is not built on silence.
And it is not built on one voice being ignored.
A home is built on:
- Order
- Respect
- Being heard
When a Mother speaks, her voice should carry weight.
Not because she demands it—but because it is honored.
In the home I was raised in:
- My Father said, “Listen to your Mother.”
- My Mother said, “Go ask your Father.”
They did not always say the same thing.
But they honored each other’s authority.
And because of that, I learned:
- Not to divide them
- Not to manipulate outcomes
- To make my own decisions when it mattered
That is how self-governance is taught.
ON CLEANLINESS, WORK, AND RESPONSIBILITY
Even in something as simple as dishes, the principle remains.
A Mother may provide the meal.
But a household is sustained when each person contributes.
Responsibility is not assigned through charts.
It is taught through:
- Expectation
- Correction in the moment
- Repetition over time
Not perfection—participation.
ON GENERATIONS AND TRUTH
I am not here to argue with my Mother.
I am not here to reject what came before.
I am here to say:
I see it.
I understand it.
And I choose to live it consciously.
There was life before me.
There will be life after me.
What I do now matters—
not just for today, but for generations who will one day ask:
“What was true, and who lived it?”
FINAL WORD
I do not stand apart from my Mothers.
I stand with them—
as one who has inherited, examined, and chosen.
I am not here to follow without thought.
I am here to live with intention.
I am a Mother.
And I will teach my children not just what to believe—
but how to choose, act, and become.
