Kindergarden Lesson #RALLY01

Big Idea

My body is amazing. It helps me learn, play, love, think, and grow. Many people believe our body is the home or vessel for who we are on the inside. Some people call that our spirit, our heart, or our inner self. Different families may use different words, and we can respect them all.

What Is My Body?

Your body is made of many teams working together.

  • Your heart pumps blood.
  • Your lungs help you breathe.
  • Your brain helps you think and learn.
  • Your muscles help you move.
  • Your skin protects you.
  • Your body has many tiny helper systems that keep everything in balance.

One of those helper systems is called the endocannabinoid system.

Meet Your Tiny Helper Team

Imagine your body has thousands of tiny helpers.

Their job is to help keep things “just right.”

They help with:

  • Sleeping
  • Feeling hungry
  • Feeling calm
  • Remembering
  • Learning
  • Feeling comfortable
  • Helping your body respond to stress

Your body makes its own special messenger molecules for this system every day. They are a natural part of how God (or nature, depending on your family’s beliefs) designed our bodies.

Sometimes Outside Chemicals Visit

Our bodies also meet chemicals from outside.

Some examples are:

  • Medicines
  • Caffeine
  • Nicotine
  • Alcohol (wine or beer)
  • Cannabis

These chemicals can change how the body’s helper systems work.

Sometimes they help when used properly under a doctor’s care.

Sometimes, especially if used too much or at the wrong time, they can confuse the body’s helper team.

What Is Addiction?

Imagine someone keeps doing your chores every day.

After a while, you might forget how to do them yourself.

The body can be like that.

If it keeps depending on an outside chemical, it may forget how to do some of its work by itself for a while.

That is called addiction.

The good news is our bodies are very good at healing. With time, healthy choices, love, support, and sometimes medical care, our bodies can remember how to do their jobs again.

My Body and My Spirit

Many families believe we are more than just our bodies.

Some believe we have a spirit that lives in our body during this life.

Other families simply say we are our thoughts, feelings, personality, and love.

No matter what your family believes, everyone can agree that our bodies deserve kindness and care.

We take care of our bodies because they help us experience life.

Healthy Choices

We can help our bodies by:

  • Eating healthy foods
  • Drinking water
  • Sleeping well
  • Playing and exercising
  • Being honest
  • Being kind
  • Asking trusted adults for help
  • Using medicine only when a trusted adult or doctor says it is safe

Remember

Your body is amazing.

It has many tiny systems working together every second.

One of those systems naturally makes its own special messenger chemicals to help keep everything balanced.

Outside chemicals—including medicines, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, cannabis, and many others—can affect those systems in different ways.

The best gift you can give your body is to learn about it, care for it, and treat it with love and respect.
