Talkin’ Church: My Gospel Truth Is His

Brothers, Sisters and fellow CREEKERS,

Today I want to speak very plainly about why I do not call myself a Christian, and why instead I testify of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The world gives the name ‘Christianity’ to many Churches, Councils, and Traditions. But Christianity, as the World knows it, is Man-made. Jesus Christ Himself was not a Christian. He is, and ever will be, the Son of God, the Redeemer of the World, and the Restorer of our Eternal Father’s Plan. To me, Jesus Christ is more than a Title or Symbol — As too a Child of God, a Daughter of Zion, He is my Eternal Older Brother, who stands united with God, our Eternal Father in Heaven.

In the Book of Mormon, Jesus explained this very clearly to His Disciples. In 3 Nephi 27:5–6 He said:

“Whatsoever ye shall do, ye shall do it in my name… and how be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses’ name then it be Moses’ church; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel.”

So I do not follow Christianity. I follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His Gospel is eternal. His Gospel is the Power of Salvation.

The Cross Was His Burden, Not Ours

Many people wear a cross as a Symbol. I honor their intent, but I choose not to wear it. Why? Because Christ already carried it. The cross was His burden, not mine.

The Prophet King Benjamin saw this in vision. He said in Mosiah 3:7:

“He shall suffer temptations, and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore…”

And Alma testified in Alma 7:11–12:

“He will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people… that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people.”

So why would I try to carry His cross when He already carried it for me? My calling is not to wear His suffering but to live His Life.

The First Principles and Ordinances

When I say I live His Gospel, I mean the very one He taught and Restored — not the Philosophies of Men. Nephi describes this clearly in 2 Nephi 31:17–21:

“The gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.
…This is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God.”

And when the Savior appeared to the Nephites, He repeated the same order in 3 Nephi 11:33–35:

“Whoso believeth in me, and is baptized, the same shall be saved… And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned.”

The FIRST Principles and Ordinances of His Gospel are clear:

  1. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
  2. Repentance
  3. Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins
  4. The gift of the Holy Ghost

This is not Christianity. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism

Alma taught at the Waters of Mormon that the people were to have “one Faith and one Baptism” (Mosiah 18:21). And Jesus Himself defined His Gospel in 3 Nephi 27:13–21 — Faith in Him, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Holy Ghost, and enduring to The End.

There are not many Gospels. There is not “my Version” or “your Version.” There is only one: His.

My Testimony

So while the world may use the word “Christianity” to describe Faith in Christ, I do not wear that Label. I am not part of Man-made Christianity. I am a Disciple of Jesus Christ. I live His Gospel.

And so I close with my testimony: Have your Gospel Truth, if you will. But my Gospel truth is His. The Gospel of Jesus Christ, with its FIRST Principles and Ordinances, is the ONLY path to Eternal Life.

As Moroni invited in Ether 12:41:

“Seek this Jesus of whom the prophets and apostles have written, that the grace of God… may be and abide in you forever.”

This is my Witness. My Gospel truth is His. In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
